In Maine, better than half of our children, children aged birth to 12 years require some form of child day care, just so their parents can work. This means that more than 130,000 Maine children need child care, every day.
When asked what they felt would be the policy measure which would have a “direct positive influence” on their lives, 90% of those Mainers asked stated “Affordable Child Care.” Today, affordable child care is considered essential to all working parents.

·That Healthy Families are the cornerstone of a Healthy Community and that in 2007 2008, accessible, quality child care is a necessity for the modern family. ·That the children of today are the adolescents and adults of tomorrow and that quality child care in the early years is essential to a productive life. ·Quality child care is beneficial to a community as a whole, not just to the families involved. And, we know that the Quality and Accessibility of child care CANNOT be consumer-driven, because parents are only able to choose the child care options that they can afford. The cost of acceptable child care far exceeds the ability of York County families to pay.
